Karl Lagerfeld’s amazing home library! “Books are a hard-bound drug with no danger of an overdose. I am a happy victim.” Comes as a pleasant surprise from him, but I couldn’t have said it better myself.

“Thomas Goode, recognised by connoisseurs as the best fine bone china producer in the world, brings us Paul Smith china, made to original Victorian values. The multi stripes are achieved on the fine bone china by a way of slide lithographing, which is fired and fuses to the surface of the wares. The finer details are then expertly hand painted and glazed. The gold used on the detailing is a liquid gold leaf (28%), equivalent of 22 carat gold.”
The adorable collection featuring the signature Paul Smith stripes even includes dog bowls and sake cups! Retailing between £39 and £278.

You have to register to be a member on the TFL website before you can start renting bikes, for now at least. And the website’s a little bit erratic. But that aside (and I do realize this is by no means a new concept) I’m secretly psyched about it.

“A guy walks across America”. Sponsored by Levi’s, the two minute video was filmed in stop-motion video, and comprises of 2770 still shot frames. You can trace the route on Google Maps & watch behind the scenes footage. With more than 1.3 million views on YouTube to date, I think we can safely agree that it’s an absolutely brilliant guerilla-viral.

THE GREAT AMERICAN APPAREL DIET

The Great American Apparel Diet, what is it?  We are a group of women and two men who have decided to go on a diet of sorts.  A fast really.  We are completely eliminating  “new apparel” from our diets for one year.   Yes, the next time you see us sporting new togs it will be Sept. 2, 2010.  Sound easy?  Well think again.  This is going to be a stretch for most of us.  You see, like most women we are attached to our wardrobes in some form or another.  In fact buying a new something-or-other is as natural as a dark choclate pick-me-up.  We all have our reasons for embarking on this project but it all gets down to this…who are we without something hip and new in our closets?  We shall see.”

GUCCI ICON HITS LONDON

“Gucci Icon” pop-up stores first opened in the NYC, followed by Miami. London is the third city that it’s launching in: it will be at Covent Garden for three weeks from yesterday, and a fourth Icon is due in Tokyo this June.

Product Designer Tim Holley has created this environmentally-friendly “Tio” light switch system to encourage children to save electricity. Tio wears a smile on his green body when the lights have been on for a short period of time. The longer the lights are left switched on, the redder and angrier Tio gets. Cute and hopefully effective.

I’m personally a fan of Macy’s new “Fashion Directors” campaign. This Spring, Macy’s sent its top designers to perform style interventions across America. My favourite of the collection features Martha Stewart is giving a make over to a fraternity. Fun fact on the side: Sear’s is none too amused with Martha Stewart, having stood by her through her jail term and continuing to sell her apparently flimsy product range. Other big names in the Macy’s campaign include money mogul Donald Trump and fashion consultant Clinton Kelly, both TV stars in their own rights. Personally, the videos still seem a bit scripted, but overall I think it’s cute & fun & pulled rather well.

Jaeger-LeCoultre presents the AMVOX5 World Chronograph, inspired by the refined elegance and beauty of Aston Martin. It is the first watch to combine the chronograph and a world time clock allowing it’s select wearers to have instant visualization of any of the world’s 24 time zones simply by selecting a city on the turning flange. This beauty will of course be a limited edition collection: only 300 with a ceramic & titanium case will be made, and 200 with a ceramic and 18 carat pink gold case. Of all the fashion collaborations I can think of (and of late there have been many), this pairing of the historic Swiss timekeeper and British luxury super-car maker, definitely takes the cake; and is by far and out, my favourite.

Vera Wang goes budget

Yet another luxury designer joins in the trend of offering affordable luxury. The collaboration between Vera Wang and David’s Bridal was announced just yesterday. The initial collection is to feature bridal gowns and accessories, and then to possibly introduce bridal shoes and bridesmaids dresses later on. Launching in the US in Spring 2011, bridal gowns will be priced at USD $1500 and up, making the big white dress from the wedding designer a dream come true for many. Remember, you heard it here first  ; )

I was shopping at Carnaby Street one day when the window display at Diesel caught my eye. I took a photo of it, and then forgot all about it till I saw it again at Covent Garden, got really intrigued and came home to google it.
“Like balloons we are filled with hopes and dreams. But over time a single sentence creeps into our lives. Don’t be stupid. It’s the crusher of possibility. It’s the world’s greatest deflator. The world is full od smart people. Doing all kinds of smart things. That’s Smart.
Well, we’re with stupid. Stupid is the relentless pursuit of a regret free life. Smart may have the brains,
but stupid has the balls. The smart might recognize things for how they are. The stupid see things for how they could be. Smart critiques. Stupid creates. The fact is if we didnt have stupid thoughts wed have no interesting thoughts at all. Smart may have the plan, but stupid has the stories.
Smart may have the authority but stupid has one hell of a hangover. Its not smart to take risks, its stupid.
To be stupid is to be brave. The stupid isnt afraid to fail. The stupid know there are worse things than failure, like not even trying.
Smart had one good idea, and that idea was stupid. You can’t outsmart stupid. So don’t even try. Remember only stupid can be truly brilliant.”
It’s absolutely witty and inspired! Diesel recognizes that consumers today want and need so more, not just an advertisement telling them what they want or what to buy. This goes against the norms and offers something fresh. Along with the myriad of beautifully designed print ads, Diesel rolled out this campaign with a competition looking for 100 creative individuals with “stupid” acts to be featured in a campaign music video. My favourite campaign in a long time, and if I were you I’d click HERE to see more. BE STUPID!!!!
